Schumann Festival Week 2018
Clara Schumann’s 200th birthday is already a light on the horizon. Born and raised in Leipzig, she conquered the concert stages of Europe, celebrated 60 (!) years performing on stage with a special performance in the Leipzig Gewandhaus. Today, her unparalleled career is a symbol for a women’s emancipation which was unheard of at the time. This should be reason enough to dedicate the 17th Schumann Festival Week in 2018 to this most significant female artist of the 19th century.
Throughout the varied program from September 8th to September 16th her own works can be heard as well as her husband’s compositions, which she made famous through her own remarkable concert career. Audiences can look forward to historical concert programs of Clara Schumann, to discovering the chamber music of her contemporaries, and to taking part in experimental attempts to draw nearer to this artist.
One additional aspect will converge with this next Schumann Festival Week in 2018. On September 13, 2019, the Schumann-Verein Leipzig e.V. plans to reveal a newly remodeled museum, completely designed with Clara Schumann in mind. Many renowned artists such as Ragna Schirmer (winner of the Bach Competition), the baritone Tobias Berndt, the pantomime duo Bodecker&Neander, the Rolston String Quartet, the concertmasters of the Gewandhaus, Sebastian Breuninger and Christian Giger, or the star tenor Christoph Pregardien will support this ambitious undertaking with their concerts during this Festival Week, which especially honor Clara Schumann.
You can support the remodeling of the museum by coming out in great numbers: We heartily invite you to attend the upcoming 17th Schumann Festival Week!
